JefftrelBooks Logo (10)

Welcome back everyone! Hope you had a good weekend. I just finished watching this week’s episode of Game Of Thrones and damn do I need to catch my breath. Later in the week I will be watching Sharknado 5. And anyone who listened to the old podcasts know how I feel about Nova. Glad to see her back!

Alright, so with voting coming up soon for the Metamorph Summer Indie Awards, what better way to help then to put Paranormal Contact Volume 3 up for free leading up to voting. So you will be able to get it from August 27-31. Of course I’ll let you know as we get closer to voting how you can help me win.

Books for Free August 2017

As many of you know, it’s been a while since I released a book. I’ve been working on my Kids’ Anthology, but writing has kind of stalled on it. So while I’m keeping it on the backburner, starting next week I’m starting work on a brand new book.  It’s not going to about the paranormal at all. It will be more in the vein of “Everything Comes Full Circle” then anything else. So I will probably start up my Word Count Wednesdays as well. So look for some news on that in the upcoming weeks as well.

There’ll be a new Top 5 coming in a day or two as well. I’m open to ideas if you want to float any my way, just reach out!

In the mean time, have a good one everybody!

Holy Moley!

Good evening everyone. Do I have some news for you? Are you sitting down? Luckily for me, I was sitting down when I got the news.

Metamorph Publishing is a small press publishing company that was founded by independent author Markie Madden. She understands the struggles of being an independent author because she is one! Well, to help out those authors she has created a yearly award contest for indy writers. There are many different categories and a lot of great authors have been nominated this year.

One of those authors is me! Paranormal Contact Vol. 3 has been nominated and I’m beyond words! Voting will begin in a few weeks, so if you are interested in helping me out, check back here in a little bit and I will share how you can do that!

Exciting Announcement!

I have been lucky enough to co-host a wrestling themed podcast every once in a while over the course of the last three years. And that podcast has certainly grown in the past few years. There’s a lot of loyal fans to the podcast, and a lot of them are incredibly creative.

Because of that, my good friend Chris has decided that their creativity needs to be rewarded. So he created the Club Kayfabe Creative Community online as well to recognize those who have helped spur along his podcasts.

I’m proud to announce that yours truly is a proud of member of the Club Kayfabe Creative Community.

What is the CKCC? I could try to explain it but I think it’s best that I let Chris explain it for you.  The Mission Statement: Our goal is to bring together creative people from all walks of life, and give them a platform to show off their talents. Anyone who does something on the internet that could be considered a creative outlet is welcome into our community! Whether you host a podcast, paint or draw pictures, dress up in intricate costumes, write in a blog or in published literature, make music, make crafts, or just show off your own athletic abilities, we want to feature you and promote you along with everything you do!

As you can see, no matter what your interest is there is something that will get your attention in the CKCC. So if you have a moment, please visit their website. You just might find something that interests you.  Remember that the website is in a soft opening. So all content has not been set up yet.

Being a part of this group is certainly going to inspire me. I work better as part of a group. So thank you to the CKCC for inviting me along to join the group!

State Of Sales for March 2017

JefftrelBooks Logo (10)

Welcome back. I started a trend last month where I’d give you some information about the sales for the previous month so we’re back for that!

February 2017 was probably my worst month as far as sales went. So I set a goal to increase sales. I started a new marketing campaign to hopefully draw some interest into my books. Guess what?

It didn’t work. How many sales did I have for all of March? That would be none. I got shut out for the month. Oh the thrills of being an independent author. It’s okay. There was a time that would have crushed me. Does it sting? Yes. Am I contemplating giving up the ghost and packing it in? To cue WWE’s Dean Ambrose.

It will always be a struggle as an independent author. I knew that going on. I was warned.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have a release date for any new book? I don’t know. Whatever the case I’m still working on the new book. And at least I’m once again getting my name out there. How?

Yes, I know today’s April Fool’s Day. My birthday is in a few days, so I wanted to give thanks to the readers. My two most successful books each have a three day window where they are free. Going on right now Paranormal Contact Vol. 3 is free. That’s good from today until Monday. Monday through Wednesday The Time Traveler’s Journal will be free as well.

Here’s a poster for the free books just to help!

Thanks for stopping by! New Top 5 tomorrow. As always if you have anything you’d like me to cover go ahead and comment on the page or drop me a tweet @Trel67 on Twitter. Have a good one everyone.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day (2017)

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone. I hope you all have the Luck Of The Irish today. Even if that means starting your day with some Lucky Charms.

Wicked Good Time Logo St. Patricks Day

A lot going on here. I’ve been talking with Austin Graves about his follow up to The Heart Wants What The Heart Wants. We definitely have some big plans going on over here. Plus in addition to my children’s novel, I have plans for another book to be written as well. So yeah, things are looking up over here.

I started a new marketing campaign on social media recently. I’m hoping to get a few more buys with it.

The Time Traveler's Journal

Each book has it’s own quote. So look for them all over my social media accounts. Let me know what you think!

As far as the Children’s anthology, I started writing an outline for one of the stories and it definitely helped me get my thoughts out. So work is progressing quite nicely with it.

It kind is amazing how much life can change in a year or two. Two years ago I recorded the first podcast for Two Dudes, Brews & Books. We churned over several great podcasts over the year and a half that it was up and running. Good times.

Well that’s it for updates for the week. I will keep you posted as I reveal more. This weekend will be a new top 5. Any ideas for one? Shoot me a tweet at @Trel67 or my Author page on Facebook. Have a good one everybody!

State of Sales for Feb 2017

JefftrelBooks Logo (10)

I want to start a new feature at the start of every month. This will be to give you the readers a look at my sales for the previous month. Sometimes it’s going to be a good month. Others, well it will be like February of 2017.

I know that as an independent author, there are going to be some slow times. It’s hard out there for an author like me when there’s so many options for readers to look into. I also know that I don’t do the best job marketing my books sometimes, so it’s something I need to do a better job at. Because I know it’s my fault, I’m not going to complain about sales.

To help spark some sales (hopefully), I’m looking to give away some free books. Whenever I give away Time Traveler’s Journal I have great turn out so that’s definitely in the running. I also haven’t given away Paranormal Contact Vol. 3 yet, so I’m looking into that as well. But I’m open to other suggestions as well.

So, last month I had  two sales. I don’t know if you bought the book and you’re reading this blog, if you did thank you. I appreciate it. My goal for the month is to triple it. I know it’s not setting any world record but as an author starting out on my own these days I have to set my goals small.

Twisted & Sinful Stories keeps chugging along. Since it’s debut in May 2016 has sold at least one copy every month. That says a lot about the writing of the other great authors that contributed to the book, Morganna Williams, Jeremy Croston and Jack Crosby. It is the most successful book with my name on it.

The other book with a sale last month was Paranormal Contact Vol. 2. I think I’ve said it before, but PC Vol. 2 is my favorite book in the series and my second favorite book I’ve written.

This weekend there will be a new Top 5 so keep your eye out for that. I’ll be back with some more updates as well soon. So have a good one everybody!

Children’s Book Preview

JefftrelBooks Logo (10) (top 5)

Happy Friday afternoon everybody. As promised I’m coming by to drop you the second excerpt from the children’s book I’m working on. Wait? Second excerpt? How could that be? Easy. Over a year ago I put an excerpt from a short story I started writing that I never finished. Well, that story will be finished too as part of my new children’s book.

As of right now it will only be these two short stories, but I might add a third if I can think of a truly unique idea.

So yeah, I’m trying to change up my writing style for this book. First off, and quite clearly I’m watching what I say.  When I had beta-readers on Time Traveler’s Journal I was told I write too much cursing especially the F word. That won’t fly in this book! So yeah, I’m definitely being careful with that! CLEARLY. Another thing I’m doing differently is making every chapter really short. I used to do three or four scenes per chapter. I’m making each chapter one scene. Short and sweet!

I haven’t named the book yet. But here you go. A chapter from the new Kid’s Anthology.

“Come on! Let’s go!” Willie screamed. His little legs ran through the forest as fast as they would carry him. The ground underneath him was still wet from the recent rains. Willie could hear his sister Kayleen coming in behind her. Even though she was a few years older than he was, she wasn’t as fast as him.

Willie and Kayleen raced through the woods as they did almost every day at about the same time. The rules of their village were strict, especially for kids of their age. They only had a little bit of time to play outside, so they took advantage of it.

Those rules had changed, ever since they found out about the clan of dragons. It wasn’t safe, the elders of the village would say. Even now with every last dragon gone, the elders of the village still wouldn’t let them as play much as they wanted to outside the village walls.

Kayleen and Willie didn’t care though. They just wanted to run through the woods whenever they could. Willie could see the clearing ahead. Each time they ran through the woods, the two of them would go a little further than the last time. They loved to explore, especially Willie.

He ran past the tree before the clearing. His feet just stopped running. Willie couldn’t help but stare at the imposing mountain that stood on the opposite side. Willie had never seen anything like it before. The tip of the mountain was so high in the sky that it disappeared into the clouds.

Kayleen was not expecting Willie to stop so suddenly, so she bumped into him. It caused her to slow down and stop as well.

“Watch it, Willie!” She said. “What is it?” She followed Willie’s eyes. “Woah….” Kayleen’s jaw dropped as she stared at the mountain. “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

“Me neither,” Willie muttered. “It’s beautiful.” Willie took another step, his foot touching the clearing for the first time. Kayleen reached out with her hand and put it across Willie’s shoulders.

“We both know that we’ve gone farther than we should have. We could get into trouble if anyone knew where we were,” she uttered. Kayleen’s eyes never left the imposing mountain in front of her, even as she tugged on Willie’s shirt to pull him back.“Let’s go back.”

Willie looked up at her with sadness in his eyes. “There are no more dragons. We should be able to play where ever we want. Whenever we want, Kay.”

Kayleen lowered to one knee and looked him in the eyes. “I agree with you. But that’s not up to us to say. We don’t make the rules. The elders do.”  She gave another tug on his shirt. Finally she grabbed him with both arms and yanked him harder. Willie stumbled backwards.

“Oh all right. I’ll go,” he said. His voice detected sadness. Willie was about to turn around and head back to the village. But something in the grass caught his eye. “Kay? I know we’re not allowed to go any further. But I see something. I think it’s safe,” he said. Willie didn’t give his older sister a chance to respond. He ran over to his right. Kayleen shook her head and took off after him, calling his name in frustration.

Willie arrived at what he saw first. It was a grey and silver ball with emblems of fire painted all over it. The ball itself was bigger than Willie’s head. He crotched down at it and tried to lift it. He strained and groaned, but was unable to budge it. Kayleen ran next to him flustered.

“Willie! We need to go back! If we don’t, you know what kind of trouble we can get into?” she screamed at him. She wasn’t paying attention to the ball Willie found. Her attention was behind her. She knew if they didn’t return to their village someone would come looking for them. “Come on Willie. If you don’t come with me, you’ll be on your own!”

“Kay? Look at this. I wonder what it is,” Willie said. He was fascinated by the size of the ball. “I don’t even know if anyone in the village would be able to lift this.” He glanced up at the mountain that was now just a little bit closer. “I wonder who this belongs to?”

Behind them, voices rang out. The voices were calling their names.

“Come on Willie. They’re coming! We gotta go,” Kayleen shouted. She picked up her younger brother and turned around. They ran back towards their village. “We’re right here,” Kayleen called back.
